About This Project

Last year, we partnered with McMaster’s Office of Community Engagement to shine a spotlight on an exciting & innovative program that is promoting healthy and fun ways to keep kids active in Hamilton’s North End, The Daily School Ride (DSR).

The program was launched in 2016 at Bennetto Elementary, and is organized through Bike For Mike &  New Hope Community Bikes. Staying active is the best way to improve physical & mental health. But the challenge is: How can kids bike to and from school safely?

McMaster’s Office of Community Engagement conducted research throughout the community, speaking with the parents about their concerns. The result? The DSR’s volunteers established safe routes to and from school using bike lanes, safer routes and traffic lights as well as encouraging the parents to join them in the ride!

We created a fun & visually exciting vignette for the program by following the students and volunteers around Hamilton on a ride. We then sat down with McMaster’s student researchers to better understand their connection to the DSR. It was a great way for us to capture both sides of the story in order to deliver a well rounded video for McMaster’s new ‘Brighter World’ campaign.

We’re proud to support programs like the DSR that promote healthy living throughout our city!
