About this project

Bite-sized employment stories we created for Prince Edward County & Career Edge PEC  as part of their recent workforce recruitment campaign. Meet Travis Benson, Master Electrician for Port Picton Homes, Justine Pitcher from Yeeboo Digital, Katrina Penzwell from Tire Wizard, and Laura Irwin from Sage Design and Construction  – all local talented craftspeople proving that you CAN have it all, right here in #TheCounty.

I just wanted to say that your team did an excellent job with this project. You guys should be proud by the level of organization, customer service— you exceeded expectations. From my experience that is pretty rare to find in the creative sector. Good work.

Justine Pitcher – Yeeboo Digital Transcript

Being able to channel my creativity into work that helps charities fundraise is really fulfilling. Yeeboo Digital is based in New Wellington, Ontario and we service non-profit clients across North America such as Operation Smile, SickKids and Save the Children. To be able to have a tech type job and be in the country and be able to work from home sometimes as well is really beneficial.

I'm an avid horseback rider so for me I can be on a country property and have my own little boarding business. I would definitely say being here, being in the country, being in the county has really made a lot of my personal dreams come true. And it's definitely allowed me to live my best life.

Katrina Penzwell – Tire Wizard Transcript

I like being able to be creative but then see it being functional. Being the graphic designer here at Tirer Wizard I do all the images for our app. I went to University in Toronto, started getting a lot of freelance work and then I luckily just got a job in the county so it was like perfect. The county has this amazing culture where it really revolves around enjoying life.

The food scene in the winery scene is really picked up. It's just starting to boom and grow. I'm really glad I moved back to the county. It allowed me to take the next step and just really pursue my career and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Travis Benson – Port Picton Homes Transcript

I did a lot of traveling before, found that I love the county, so I just wanted to stay in here. I have a young family now, so lots of room to grow. There's so many new opportunities. Yeah, the county really, if you just like the freedom, the open space, it's just a great place to be. A successful day of work is showing up, 7 o'clock, get a good chunk of it done, just be happy at the end of the day.

So I've been with Port Picton Homes for 15 years now. Excellent time to try to get into the skilled trades in the county. There's just construction going on like crazy. Work with a couple guys. We're great buddies. It's just a fun place to come in and work.

Justin Cartier – Highline Mushrooms Transcript

There's so many factors that go into growing mushrooms and the science behind it is very interesting to me. Highline as a company has helped me grow and learn many things from packaging to growing to harvest, but it's also given me an amazing place to live. Working and living in the county, it just brings you a lifestyle that you can't get anywhere else.

You have beautiful nature, it's got a lot of culture, that kind of city feel in a small town. Working at the farm and living in the county has been an amazing experience for me. And I can't really see myself living anywhere else.

Laura Irwin – Sage Construction Transcript

I like carpentry because it's hands-on. You get to see projects from start to finish and be creative. When I'm on the job site, I organize the materials and I deal with the client and make sure the project's being built to their specifications. When I moved here, I was looking for a small town community with opportunity.

We have more work than we can handle right now. Living and working in the county has really allowed me to enjoy all the activities that I like doing. I'm nice and close to work, so I don't spend a lot of time traveling. Moving to the county has allowed me to pursue my career and live a life that I've always dreamed of.
